7th Day : Personal Settings

This is my last blog post for this project.

Again I followed the instructions on Mr. J’s blog, this time about Personal Settings. I went into Users, then into Personal Settings. Under “English Options”, I checked all the boxes there is. This enables WordPress to sort of proofread my post before publishing it, reporting me my mistakes – spelling, grammar, etc. It’s very helpful.

6th Day : Videos

I’m getting closer to finishing everything, all my blog posts and pages, including pictures.

Today I worked on and finished my Videos page.  I followed the instructions on Mr. J’s blog, tomsawesomeparty.wordpress.com. Because my dish is so simple and the process of making it doesn’t require any special skills or tools, I only have 2 videos: “how to peel & core an apple” and “how to use a microwave”. Once I found my videos, I pressed “Share” (on YouTube) and copied the embedded code to paste into my blog, under the HTML tab, of course.

This is pretty easy.

5th Day : Cooking

I cooked my apple sauce today.
Since I already have all the ingredients (some apples, lemon juice and sugar) and cooking materials (bowl, microwave, spoon) in my house, cooking the recipe was very easy. It took me about 2 minutes to gather all the ingredients needed and 20 minutes to cook it- which was kind of a long time for such a simple side-dish.

So. As I said, I cooked my apple sauce today. It was very easy. Dice the apples, add lemon juice, put in microwave, and crush it.

Photos are in my Testing page.

4th day : Finding Music

So far, finding music is like the most challenging part of all (excluding the beginning when I just started using WordPress, which was quite difficult). Finding both traditional and contemporary Dutch music is not easy, especially when I have to find 5 for each, contemporary and traditional

The first think I did was go to Google. “Traditional Dutch music” was what I typed in the search box and a few links, including YouTube came up. Few were quite useful, some were not even related, and, unsurprisingly, most were not in high quality (audio AND video), which was exactly what I expected from googling a topic like this.

Traditional music, comparing to contemporary music, is a little easier to find, for some reason.

3 possibly “usable” traditional music links are in my Music | Traditional page, but for contemporary music only 1 possibly usable contemporary music link was found – you can check it out in my Music | Contemporary page.

Because of this, I think I’ll probably have to see what my group members have got otherwise the length of these 4 songs together definitely would not be enough for the entire duration of the party.

3rd Day : Customs

Customs: Colors, costumes, and traditions.

So this is my third day working on WordPress, it’s getting somewhat easier. Navigating in WordPress, for me, has become a lot easier – as said, it’s getting easier and I kinda understand the “terms” and layout more.

Anyway.

Today I worked on colors and traditions. From researching about Dutch customs, I learned a lot about Holland/Netherlands. If you want to know what I learned, be sure to go check those pages out: colors | traditions. For costumes – I haven’t finished working on it yet.

To make it easier for my blog readers, I have inserted links [“jump to:”] in my Parent (Customs) page, so when visitors come in and click on the parent page, they would not see a blank page but rather links to the Child pages so they would be able to “jump to” those pages in just a click.

2nd Day : The “Recipes” Page

Traditional Dutch Apple Sauce

Traditional Dutch Apple Sauce

I got my“Recipes” page done today. My menu – a side snack which I will be serving for my party is traditional Dutch apple sauce.

This side snack, well, is a side snack, usually eaten as a snack with crackers, biscuits, bread, etc.

I think this traditional Dutch apple sauce will be very easy to make; only few ingredients are required to make this apple sauce, plus the preparation time and cooking time altogether only adds up to about 10 minutes – according to the website I found my recipe from.

I like to keep things simple.

1st Day : “Setting-Up”

For two classes, I just kind of “set-up” my blog. I, basically, customized my blog’s appearance and added basic links, menus and pages including:

  • Customs (parent page)
    • Colors
    • Costumes
    • Traditions
  • Music
    • Contemporary
    • Traditional
  • Recipes
  • Testing
    • Day 1
    • Day 2
  • Theme
  • Trivia
  • Videos
My Gravatar

My Gravatar

Widgets – links, recent posts, meta – were also added to my blog. I dont really get how it is useful but I added anyway because it was in Mr. J’s requirements (in his blog.)
I also added the links to my classmates’ blogs in the Links section, categorized in the “Classmates” category.
Some other basic stuff like my gravatar, my blog icon, theme (that allows drop-down menus), etc are all changed, though there are no other information on any of my pages yet.
